About Sway
At Sway, we create beers that are tied to a specific time, place, and people. We brew (very) small-batch, classically inspired beers using 100% Midwestern ingredients, from small farms close to home, including hops sourced exclusively from Wisconsin and hand-foraged native plants (things like goldenrod, yarrow, and spruce). The raw ingredients used in our brewery are representative of specific harvest seasons, the land they were grown on, and the people who grew them—people we’ve shaken hands with.
These ingredients and our mineral-rich well water, along with decisions made during the brewing process and the care observed in presenting these beers to our customers, gives Sway beer a story. A story where year-to-year variation is embraced and our beers are an extension of our regional food system. A story where beer always starts as a seed. Our dedication to quality service, good hospitality, and creative food facilitate the telling of the tale.
The facets of our business—which now include a scratch bakery and kitchen—converge over our focus on highlighting regeneratively grown Midwestern grain.
As a business, our values include:
(1) Being 100% brewer owned and operated, without outside investors. This independence allows us to make decisions supporting the highest quality, most intriguing beer and best customer experience possible. We pride ourselves in this independence and strive to create an environment where employees find pride both in the food and beverage we create and in the values of our company.
(2) Beers built on sessionability. Falling into a mid-alcohol range between 3-5.5%, our beers encourage healthy drinking habits and pair exceptionally well with the food served from our kitchen. We strive to create beers that serve as a companion to good company and conversation.
(3) Supporting local organizations that better our environment. We’re proud to support The Ridges Sanctuary, Door County Land Trust, and Climate Change Coalition of Door County, in addition to the small farms we source from. Our involvement in the Artisan Grain Collaborative is an ongoing effort to strengthen a regenerative grainshed in the Midwest, enhancing biodiversity across the region and nurturing our local community.
Sway beautifully in the wind.
Sway is 100% owned & operated by brewer Matt Sampson.
Matt fell in love with craft beer while pursuing his PhD in Chemistry at UC San Diego. After moving to Door County, Matt spent nearly 6 years helping launch, grow, and create beers for Hacienda Beer Co., leading the brewery’s award-winning wild barrel program, curating their progressive branding and marketing, and eventually managing all production for the boutique brewery.
